5 Republican Elected Officials Endorse Democrat Martinez for Congress

Hialeah, FL – Five Republican elected officials from Miami-DadeCounty today endorsed former Hialeah Mayor Raul Martinez, Democratic candidate for Florida’s 21st Congressional District and called upon other Republicans to join Republicans for Raul, a group of registered Republicans supporting Raul Martinez for Congress


They also unveiled a new website, RepublicansForRaul.com highlighting Republicans who are supporting Raul Martinez for Congress, where people can sign up to join Republicans for Raul.

Those endorsing Martinez included Hialeah Gardens Mayor Yioset De La Cruz, Hialeah City Council Vice President Carlos Hernandez, Hialeah Councilman Luis Gonzalez, Hialeah Councilman José Caragol, and Hialeah Gardens Councilman Luciano “Lucky” Garcia.

Statement from Hialeah Gardens Mayor Yioset De La Cruz:

“I am supporting Raul Martinez for Congress because I have seen first hand what he has accomplished and know that he will be a Congressman for all the people of District 21.  This has nothing to do with partisan politics, but about who is the best candidate to fight for us in Washington.  I look at Washington and I know that, without a doubt, Raul Martinez is exactly the person we need.”

Statement from Hialeah City Council Vice President Carlos Hernandez:

“I have worked side by side with Raul Martinez and I’ve seen how he transformed Hialeah into a great place to live and raise a family. Putting aside party labels, I know that Raul is the best candidate and a leader who will put the citizens first instead of political parties, lobbyists and special interest groups.”

Statement from Hialeah City Councilman Luis Gonzalez:

“As the owner of a small business, I see every day how people are struggling to make ends meet. I place great importance in fiscal responsibility and I am honored to support Raul Martinez for Congress. Not because he’s a Democrat or a Republican, but because he is the best candidate to help us through these tough economic times.”

Statement from Hialeah City Councilman José Caragol:

“Raul Martinez turned Hialeah from a town of open pastures and a few street lights to a bustling city. Raul changed Hialeah for the better and he is the best candidate to change Washington for the better.”

“I have had the privilege of representing HialeahGardens since 1994 and I saw first hand how much our neighbors in the City of Hialeah prospered during Raul Martinez’s time as Mayor. We may not share the same political party, but I am supporting Raul Martinez for Congress because he is the best candidate.
