Martinez Campaign Celebrates its First Victory

Posted: May 11, 2008

May8, 2008 - Mayor Raul Martinez is celebrating a victory for the constituents of District 21 as his campaign has successfully educated Lincoln Diaz-Balart about the looming two year long housing crisis.  Mayor Martinez has repeatedly called on him to vote for the Neighborhood Stabilization Act of 2008.  Recently, Lincoln said he had not “studied this sufficiently”. “Fortunately, Mayor Martinez’s highlighting of the issue lead Lincoln to study the two-year crisis further.

The Act introduced by Representative Barney Frank, will ensure struggling homeowners will get much needed relief from the ongoing housing crisis that last year forced almost 450 homes in foreclosure per day.

Martinez Campaign Celebrates its First Victory After hearing about the passage of the most recent housing bill, Mayor Martinez commented, “I’m disappointed that Lincoln Diaz Balart failed to show any leadership on this critical issue.  However I am glad that Lincoln followed my calls to take action. The people of district 21 are in desperate need of relief; passage of the Neighborhood Stabilization Act is a victory for every person that is on the verge of losing their most valued investment. Again, I am happy Lincoln followed our lead.”

Last month when asked by the New York Times about the possible solution to the ongoing housing crisis, Lincoln Diaz-Balart’s response rattled homeowners when he stated “I haven’t studied this sufficiently”. Today, after intense pressure from Mayor Raul Martinez, the congressman has voted in favor of Barney Frank’s legislation that offers a solution to the housing crisis and brings relief to struggling homeowners across the district 21 and the country.

Mayor Martinez added, “If this much needed legislation is vetoed by the President, I hope Lincoln Diaz-Balart will finally have the courage to stand up against George W Bush and his failed policies.”
