Martinez in Denver to Advocate Change, Diaz-Balart in Denver to Play Political Games
Posted: Aug 22, 2008Hialeah, FL – Former Hialeah Mayor Raul Martinez, Democratic candidate for Florida’s 21st Congressional District, is in Denver today to kick off the Democratic Convention and advocate an agenda for change that will bring real solutions to the hard-working people of South Florida. Mayor Martinez will be fighting for solutions that will bring healthcare to every American, end our dependence on foreign oil, and get us out of Iraq.
His opponent Lincoln Diaz-Balart is in Denver today to play partisan political games that exemplify the broken politics of Washington that we need to change.
“It is a sad day in America when a U.S. Congressman like Lincoln Diaz-Balart would fly 2,000 miles away from his district to play childish political games rather than work for his constituents back home to solve the issues he has ignored his entire time in Congress” said Martinez Communications Director Aaron Blye. “South Floridians went to work today worrying about how to keep a roof over their head and protect their family. Mr. Diaz-Balart went on a partisan vacation today worrying about how to defend President Bush’s failed policies that he has rubberstamped every step of the way.”
Mayor Martinez offered Mr. Diaz-Balart an opportunity to have a substantive, televised debate in Denver, but Mr. Diaz-Balart chose to hide behind his campaign staff who said he only plans to be in Denver for a day. Diaz-Balart has still not agreed to a televised debate in the district.
Raul Martinez has accepted at least five invitations to debate including several that would be televised. Diaz-Balart was a no-show for a May debate planned by the South Florida AFL-CIO, and he continues to duck invitations for a televised debate.
