Lincoln Diaz-Balart disappoints the voters of District 21- Again!

Posted: May 24, 2008

May 22, 2008 - Today the Miami Herald reported that Lincoln Diaz-Balart refused to debate former Mayor of Hialeah, Raul Martinez at a forum organized by the South Florida AFL-CIO.

Unfortunately for the people of district 21, this is not the first time that Lincoln Diaz-Balart has cut and run from his obligations to the American public.

Timeline

Initially, several weeks ago, a date was agreed upon by both campaigns. Then Lincoln Diaz Balart asked if we could accommodate his little brother who had a prior an event.

Raul Martinez Campaign gladly postponed a highly anticipated fundraiser with celebrity attorney Roy Black to accommodate Lincoln Diaz–Balart’s schedule.

Diaz–Balart’s sudden scheduling conflict raises the question of what the congressman of district 21 could be doing that is more important that meeting with his constituents.  The Raul Martinez campaign demands that Lincoln Diaz–Balart’s schedule be released to the public.

Lincoln Diaz–Balart’s refusal to meet before working families is evidence of his elitist tendencies and a reckless disregard for the concerns of the people that put him in office.

Lincoln’s sudden decision to pull out of the AFL–CIO forum comes after the union spent a vast amount of time and money to advertise and coordinate the highly anticipated function. Invitations and media advisories had been sent out and high profile journalist, Michael Putney had agreed to moderate the debate.

Lincoln Diaz–Balart claims to be an advocate for free and transparent elections in Cuba however, as his actions have demonstrated, he is not willing to lead by example.  Shame on you congressman!
