Failure in leadership: Martinez calls on Lincoln Diaz-Balart to sign on to bipartisan solution
Posted: Apr 02, 2008District 21 has been especially hard hit by the ongoing mortgage crisis. If there was ever a time that the district needed a leader to bring about solutions to a hardship it is now. However, Lincoln Diaz-Balart has failed to show leadership once again.
The Sunday New York Times published an in-depth article on the mortgage and housing crisis. The story highlighted the fact that homeowners in South Florida, specifically those living in District 21, are among the hardest hit by the housing crisis in the country. When asked by the New York Times what he thought would be a good solution to the crisis, Lincoln Diaz-Balart answered:“I haven’t studied this sufficiently”.
With national and international media focusing on the issue, and a daunting number of people living in district 21 facing possible foreclosure, why is Lincoln-Diaz Balart not spending the necessary time studying the issue? Why is he not taking a leadership role in seeking out an answer to this problem? While the Democrats in Congress are hard at work trying to be part of the solution, Lincoln Diaz-Balart has been absent from the discussion.
Today, Mayor Raul Martinez asks that Lincoln Diaz-Balart stop watching the crisis in South Florida and take action. We demand that Diaz –Balart join the bi-partisan group of Senators and Congressional Democrats in supporting legislation to help homeowners keep their homes and continue living the American Dream.
As the former Mayor of Hialeah, Raul Martinez knows first hand how much this mortgage crisis is affecting the citizens of District 21. He has been calling for safeguards and legislation to ensure hardworking homeowners that their homes are safe.
