Israel

The United States and Israel have had an unbreakable bond since Israel’s founding in 1948. They have stood side by side for freedom, hope, and security throughout the world, and especially in the Middle East. Mayor Martinez has traveled to Israel and has seen first hand the remarkable success of the Israeli people. If elected to Congress, he will never defer in his commitment to Israel and issues of concern to the Jewish people.

Israel has the right to choose its capital and for that capital to be recognized worldwide. Raul Supports moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Israel is the only state in the world in which the U.S. has an embassy outside of the true capitol.

Raul believes that Israel must always be allowed to defend herself, and that the U.S. must work towards peace in the Middle East without compromising Israel’s security.

With the death of Yassser Arafat, there are now more opportunities to change the political situation in the Middle East. However, it is of extreme importance that the Palestinians cease their rein of terror against Israel before any progress can be made. The construction of a border security fence has saved lives on both sides of the fence and Raul will continue to support this policy.

Additionally, the participation of Hamas in Palestinian Authority elections is not acceptable. There are international laws in charge of excluding active terrorist groups from elections, and as a United States Congressman, Raul would support such exclusion. Iran poses a major threat to both the U.S. and Israel, and in Congress, Raul will fight for the Iran Freedom Support Act, and any effort to use the economic and political power of the U.S. to put pressure on Iran to become a more responsible nation state. Raul strongly supports any sanctions against Iran aimed at halting their nuclear program. He also supports the use of U.S. political and economic resources to put pressure on Syria to end its sponsorship of terrorism, and in Congress, he would vote for the Syria Accountability Act.

The United States and Israel have long stood together as democratic government allies. Both countries believe in the rule of law and in a commitment to protecting human rights. In a region where encouraging democracy and human rights is a priority, the U.S. will continue to be a strategic partner with Israel. Foreign aid tends to promote peace, security and freedom, and the national security of the U.S. depends on maintaining high levels of economic and military support for Israel. Raul strongly supports increased foreign aid to Israel and a continued economic partnership in the development of technology, agriculture, and military and domestic security for the benefit of both the U.S. and Israel.
